There may be better cash flow and budgeting software (Banktivity and YNAB, for example), but these apps fall short, in my view, of keeping tabs on the intricate accounting treatment for the variety of obscure transactions that flow from owning stocks, mutual funds, stock options, and employer-granted restricted stock. With all its shortcomings, Quicken is still superior to any other personal finance program on the Mac if you need robust investment tracking. Let me be clear about something before I get into what’s changed in the latest version of Quicken. I chose the high-end version because I needed the investment accounting and tracking features. I planned to run parallel systems between Mac and Windows, but that became too much effort, so in January 2017, I switched entirely to Quicken Premiere for the Mac. I finally took the leap in 2016 after Quicken 2017 for the Mac was released, and initial feedback was mildly positive for the first time. Each year I would await the latest incarnation for the Mac, only to be disappointed by the one-star feedback of early adopters on the Mac App Store. Instead, I used a virtualized version of Windows inside the Mac to use Quicken. Back then, Quicken on the Mac was too basic for my needs. If my bank only paid to support PC QFX files, I may not be able to download it to the Mac. The QFX files are platform independent, but are verified against the Intuit servers before they allow you to import the data. It appears that, even if I DO get my data imported successfully, I may still have problems with future QFX transaction downloads from my banks if they have not paid Intuit to support both PC and Mac downloads. It may be that Intuit's business practices are what is ham-stringing my efforts. I'm extremely disheartened by what the following blogger reported: I have tried everything on the Intuit site, and plan to call their 'Quicken Platform Conversion' help line next week.
Q2007Mac attempts to import the QIF file from the PC and it bombs every time. I've been fighting with importing that data into Quicken 2007 for Mac, with NO success. I've been an Intuit (for PC) customer for about 10 years, and have tons of data in Quicken for the PC. Shepards - I'm going through the same issues, and from what I'm reading, I'm NOT happy.
